Mining in Death Valley
Starting in the 1850's, considerable mining took place in Death Valley for gold and silver. In 1880, borax was discovered, and there was a large borax mine still operating in the park when I was there. It predated the establishment of the monument in 1933, so remained private land. Most other mines had long since shut down, and were abandoned. Here are some pictures from those mines.
